Jotun from Scandinavian mythology is added to the game with the name Surtr (The Fire Giant). The developers say that Surtr will especially be enjoyed by those who have been playing Smite for a long time. He is an aggressive warrior who is particularly effective on the back line. Visually, he is a tall, powerful man wearing armor made of flaming magma.

The basis for developing this character were the stories of Ragnarök. Smite artists tried to make the silhouette of the god, his weapons and armor to be different from those of Odin and Atlas.

Surtr’s abilities are as follows:

  • Obsidian Flesh. When the hero loses his health, his flesh cracks into fragments. By picking these up, Surtr recovers his health. But enemies are on the watch and can destroy these fragments by walking over them.
  • Flames of Muspell. Surtr can set his sword ablaze and attack enemies with it. This attack causes the enemies to take damage over time
  • Giant’s Grasp. The new god can pull the closest target to him, either an enemy lane minion or fiery imp and throw it at the enemy. This will not only damage the enemies, but also stun them for 1.2 seconds.
  • Emberwalk. Surtr creates a ring of embers around him, which increases his movement speed and slows down enemies. The ring also picks up Obsidian Flesh fragments.
  • End of Days. Surtr surges into the air infusing into a large Meteor, becomes immune to damage and can choose where to come crashing down. Surtr’s Meteor knocks enemies up, dealing 50 to 150 damage.
